Lakehouse Platform: One Governed Source of Truth
How Enouvo designed and built a governed Medallion lakehouse on AWS: every construction, safety, asset and project system landed into Bronze, Silver and Gold layers with full lineage, quality scoring and live monitoring, served to Athena, Power BI and QuickSight from one console.
The Challenge
The client's data had outgrown their visibility. Dozens of source systems covering construction, safety, asset, project and procurement each held a slice of the truth, with no unified, queryable view across them. When a number looked wrong, no one could trace it back through the transformations to its source or prove PII was handled correctly. ETL breaks, freshness slips and quality drift were discovered when a report was already wrong, never the moment they happened.
The Solution
Enouvo designed and built a governed lakehouse on AWS around a Medallion architecture. Every source lands in Bronze as an immutable replica with PII stripped at ingest, is normalized, typed and schema-validated in Silver, then joined, aggregated and partitioned into business-ready Gold datasets, served as Parquet and Iceberg to Athena, Power BI and QuickSight.
- Source integration: all systems landed via REST, GraphQL, Oracle, JDBC and file sync, every integration catalogued with domain, protocol, schedule, per-layer health and quality.
- Catalog and lineage: a queryable data dictionary across Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers and Glue databases, listing rows, columns, partitions and format, with lineage across the whole platform.
- Pipeline orchestration: Glue workflows and triggers, scheduled and conditional, with smoke tests. Every run is readable as a DAG, a layer board, a volume flow or a timeline.
- Quality and governance: a platform quality score across five dimensions, failing checks called out, and every dataset ranked, so trust is measured rather than assumed.
- Monitoring and alerting: live health, freshness and failure alerts with severity, context and a suggested runbook linking straight to the failing pipeline run.
How We Delivered
A phased rollout across roughly 17–21 weeks of core delivery: a two-week discovery covering the source inventory, governance needs and success metrics; three weeks designing the Medallion model, catalog, lineage and quality framework; an 8–12 week build of ingestion jobs, Glue workflows and consume-ready datasets with fortnightly demos; then a four-week pilot on one priority domain with live monitoring and analyst onboarding before platform-wide rollout.
Results
- Every system, one governed view: construction, safety, asset, project and procurement sources unified into a single queryable lakehouse.
- Lineage and quality at every hop: three governed Medallion layers, each catalogued, quality-scored and PII-handled at ingest.
- Failures caught the moment they happen: real-time pipeline health, freshness and quality-drift alerts with runbooks replace end-of-day surprises in broken reports.
