How Enouvo built an AI-enabled cloud platform that lets geoscientists scan, QA/QC and analyze drill core data remotely, cutting processing time by 70–80% for an Australian mining company.
The Challenge
An Australian mining company runs exploration across multiple sites. Geological data reached decision-makers too slowly. Drill core imagery was scanned and quality-checked by hand. Data quality varied from one site and team to the next. Geoscientists working away from site had limited access to the data and the tools to analyze it. Exploration decisions waited on data readiness.
The Solution
Enouvo delivered an AI-enabled, cloud-based platform with four core components:
- Secure cloud access: geoscientists view, analyze and collaborate on exploration data from any location.
- AI-powered scanning and QA/QC: automated image processing and quality control on core imagery, replacing manual passes.
- AI copilot: supports data exploration and speeds up analysis workflows.
- Standardized data pipelines: produce consistent, high-quality datasets for downstream analysis.
How We Delivered
The project ran for two years of continuous build. We split the delivery into two sub-teams of three to four senior engineers each, working in parallel and handing work to each other.
- Image processing team: built the automated annotation of drill core camera images. This team also owned the data labelling, working closely with the client's subject-matter experts (SMEs) to label the data correctly.
- Platform team: built the station machine and the cloud-based app. The station machine ingests the AI output from the image processing team. The cloud app moves that output into a shared digital workflow where geoscientists review and collaborate.
Results
- 70–80% faster data processing.
- One dataset, global teams. Geoscientists in different locations access and analyze the same data remotely.
- Consistent data across sites. Standardized pipelines give every site and team the same quality of dataset.
